On September 30, 2006, 16 students and other community members attended a training seminar at Howard University for STAR (Students Teaching Abstinence & Responsibility) Guides.  STAR Guides received training in the ULTRA Teen Choice classroom presentations from Executive Director Richard Urban, plus information on the ULTRA Teen Choice middle school and high school programs.  They also choose from among several opportunities to serve Washington DC youth.

A jam packed schedule of classroom presentations at Kramer Middle School, Stuart-Hobson Middle School, and at New Community for Children after school program was successfully completed. Presentations were provided by seven STAR Guides from Howard University, Catholic University, and from the Comprehensive Health Academy.

Simi Akinwande represented ULTRA Teen Choice at the 8th Washington Times Citizens Forum.  The topic was "The root causes of the rising AIDS trend in Washington, D.C.:  How do we educate our community to take responsible action while developing effective social services?" .  The panel included the head of the DC Department of Health, and the speakers included Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and Charles Ssentongo from the embassy of Uganda.  Simi spoke up for abstinence as the only 100% sure way to protect our youth from the epidemic of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.  Simi stood out as the lone voice on the panel promoting abstinence from sex before marriage as the way to stem the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC.

Students, faculty, and parents enjoyed the ULTRA Teen Choice High School Club Kick Off dinner on October 26th which was held at East Street Cafe in Union Station.  Attending youth represented Eastern Senior High School, School Without Walls, McKinley Technical School, and Friendship Edison Collegiate Academy.  STAR Guides, faculty, Club members and parents gave testimonies and Executive Director Richard Urban gave the vision for the formation of student led high school ULTRA Teen Choice Clubs.  These new Clubs will join the one already in existence at Eastern Senior High School.
